Joseph F. Lober Jr., also known as the “King of Rock and Roll,” passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the age of 80 after a courageous seven year battle with cancer. Born on October 11, 1943 to the late Helen (Hall) and Joseph F. Lober Sr. , Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanie (Dunchak), daughter, Pamela (Paul) Shoemaker, son, Steven Lober, grandchildren, Josh (Lindsay), Kiley and Jacy Shoemaker and great grandson Knox Shoemaker. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Mastroianni , nephews, Michael (Cheryl) and Jay Mastroianni and cousins Mary Kay Stanton and Kathy Graham. Close friends Sonny and Susan Chayka. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his stepbrother Leo Kenny, and brother-in-law Joseph Mastroianni.
Joe retired from the Auburn School District as a custodian, where he wasn't just the guy with the keys, but the heart and soul of the hallways. His colleagues weren't just coworkers; they were part of his extended family. He was an active member of the UNC and the Utopia Club. Generous, loving, and funny—these three words barely scratch the surface of a man who was larger than life. Joe had the rare ability to turn everyday moments into lasting memories, and his laughter was the soundtrack to countless family gatherings. He was the kind of guy who knew that life didn't have to be taken too seriously, and he shared this philosophy generously with everyone he met.
Joe's life was a masterclass in finding humor in the mundane, love in the simple, and family in every face. He approached every day as if it was a gift and never missed an opportunity to unwrap the joy and share it with others. His legacy is a tapestry of tales told with a twinkle in his eye and a smile that could light up the darkest room. Today, we celebrate the man, the myth, the legend—Joseph F. Lober Jr. As the final spotlight fades and the laughter echoes in our hearts, we remember Joe not with sadness, but with the joy he so freely gave. His was a life well-lived, a story well-told, and a journey that, while it may have reached its end, will continue to inspire and entertain through the memories he leaves behind.
